We Believe in God the Spirit – Acts 19:1-7,10
(Baptist Faith & Message 2000- Holy Spirit)
Misconceptions about Holy Ghost: “it” “chaos” “wild ecstatic antics”
God’s Spirit’s work defined by prepositions: over, upon, in & with
      1.       Creative Work of the Holy Spirit “Over

Eternal Beautifier: *Making the Father’s Plans Beautiful

-          Spirit hovered over water- “Spirit hovered over the face of the waters” (Gen 1:2)

-          Spirit adorned the cosmos- “By His breath the heavens are adorned” (Job 26:13)

APP. Worship God the Father, in Jesus’ Name & by His blood, in & through the power of the Holy Spirit & by His decorative work

      2.       Covenant Work of the Holy Spirit “Upon

- Revealed Father’s Law; Spirit of God Came Upon them  (ie. 1 Sam 10:6)- Then the Spirit of the Lord will come upon you mightily, and you shall prophesy with them and be changed into another man.

- Codified His Word: Inspiration – God’s Breath (2 Tim 3:16-17) All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for [b]training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

- Validated His Prophecies ie. Dove – Jesus’ Baptism (Matt 3:16) After being baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove and lighting on Him, and behold, a voice out of the heavens said, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased.”

APP. Any prophet whose prophecies or sign did not come about was not led by the Spirit.

       3.       Christian Work of the Holy Spirit “In

Baptizer: (Matt 3:11) “As for me, I baptize you with water  for repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, and I am not fit to remove His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

Comforter/Helper: (John 14:16, 26) I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.

Filler/Indweller: (Eph 5:18; Rom 8:9) And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit. 9 However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him.

Illuminator/Revealer: (Heb 6:4; 1 Cor 2:10) For in the case of those who have once been enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit, 10 For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God.

Convicter/Sanctifier: (John 16:8; Rom 15:16) When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment. 15:16 to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles, ministering as a priest the gospel of God, so that my offering of the Gentiles may become acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.

Mission Empowerer/Caller: (Acts 1:8; 13:2) but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.” 13:2 While they were ministering to the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”

Giver of Gifts/Bearer of Fruit: (1 Cor 12:4; Gal 5:22) Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control;

Sealer/Guaranteer: (2 Cor 1:22) who also sealed us and gave us the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge.

APP. Learn to recognize the Holy Spirit & don’t just depend of someone who says they know Him.

      4.       Calling work of the Holy Spirit “With

Will Beautify the End Times: 2 Thess 2:6-7
And you know what restrains him now, so that in his time he will be revealed. 7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way.

Spirit says “Today” Heb 3:7
Therefore, just as the Holy Spirit says, “Today if you hear His voice,

Spirit and Bride Say “Come”: Rev 22:17
The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take the water of life without cost.

APP. Our eternal fellowship is with Him by His Spirit living inside us, making us one with Christ.

Hey Buck,
I'm not sure why, but this message was one of the most powerful and meaningful that I can recall. I guess it was exactly what the Holy Spirit wanted me to learn. Or it could be that I was at the 2nd service and more awake than usual. (LOL)
Something else you said was inline with my daily prayers. You said, our new Pastor will be the Holy Spirit's gift to us.
My prayer has been that we, the "sheep", have receptive hearts and be willing to be lead in the manner the Bible teaches.
Blessing,
Nuella

Thank you Nuella. The Bible says, "And He (The Holy Spirit) gave some to be... pastors." It can be a bad thing when a pastor in selfish pride thinks that he is God's gift to the church and feeds his own pride with that thought, but it is terrible thing when the church doesn't recognize that a pastor is God's gift to the church (Eph 4:11), as the Holy Spirit enables him to be. I appreciate your encouragement. God bless!
