SERMON NOTES (Dec 27, 2015): Christmas Stewardship: Managing the Method - 2 Cor 5:16-21

Christmas Stewardship: Managing the Method
2 Cor 5:16-21

I.                    Relational Recognition (vv 16-17)

16 Therefore from now on we recognize no one according to the flesh; even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him in this way no longer. 17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.

*Jesus’ Method changes the way you see people around you. (vs. 16)

*Jesus’ Method changes the way you see yourself.  (vs. 17)

II.                  Instrumental Reconciliation (vv 18-19)

18 Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation.

*Gift of reconciliation “all these things from God” (18) reconciling & giving ->“new things” (17) healing relationships

*Deaconship of reconciliation (18) healing ministry

*Word of reconciliation (19) healing message

III.                Verbal Representation (vv 20-21)

20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

*Idea of Ambassador (20): Elder, Preacher, Missionary

*“On behalf” as in substitution, “over” as in intercession, “for” as in transaction (20-21)

*My sin was generated in Jesus on the cross; His righteousness was generated in me when He saved me. (21)
