I.                    Isaiah’s Crisis of Condition- Adoration of God over Admiration of Men (PRIDE)
A.      Governmental Uncertainty – UZZIAH (Azariah), Son of Amaziah; Altar; Leprosy; Died alone. “He was sixteen years old when he became king, and he reigned fifty-two years in Jerusalem; and his mother’s name was [a]Jecoliah of Jerusalem. He did right in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his father Amaziah had done. Only the high places were not taken away; the people still sacrificed and burned incense on the high places. The Lord struck the king, so that he was a leper to the day of his death. And he lived in a separate house” 2 Kings 15:2-5
But when he became strong, his heart was so [m]proud that he acted corruptly, and he was unfaithful to the Lord his God, for he entered the temple of the Lord to burn incense on the altar of incense. 17 Then Azariah the priest entered after him and with him eighty priests of the Lord, valiant men. 18 They opposed Uzziah the king and said to him, “It is not for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to the Lord, but for the priests, the sons of Aaron who are consecrated to burn incense. Get out of the sanctuary, for you have been unfaithful and will have no honor from the Lord God.” 19 But Uzziah, with a censer in his hand for burning incense, was enraged; and while he was enraged with the priests, the leprosy broke out on his forehead before the priests in the house of the Lord, beside the altar of incense. 20 Azariah the chief priest and all the priests looked at him, and behold, he was leprous on his forehead; and they hurried him out of there, and he himself also hastened to get out because the Lord had smitten him. 21 King Uzziah was a leper to the day of his death; and he lived in a separate house, being a leper, for he was cut off from the house of the Lord.” 2 Chr 26:16-21 (BIGGER THAN THE GOVERNMENT)
B.      Vision of the Lord’s Glory – High and Lifted Up – doing his priestly duties (Bigger than the TEMPLE)
C.      Lips Unclean (sin)- Confession of Sin (BIGGER THAN JUST ME) PRIDE
D.      Mouth: “It is not what enters into the mouth that defiles the man, but what proceeds out of the mouth, this defiles the man. Do you not understand that everything that goes into the mouth passes into the stomach, and is [h]eliminated? 18 But the things that proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and those defile the man. 19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries,[i]fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders. ” Matt 15:11, 17-19.
“ For the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart” Matt 12:34
“With [the tongue] we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the likeness of God; 10 from the same mouth come both blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be this way.” James 3:9-10

II.                  Isaiah’s Cost of Change
A.      Fear from Seeing the Lord – “But He said, "You cannot see My face, for no man can see Me and live!"” Ex 33:20 “Woe is me, for I am ruined!” Isaiah 6:5
B.      Holiness wrought through altar fires- not from within – I Cannot Save Myself; These People Cannot Save Me.

III.                Isaiah’s Consequence of the Conflict
A.      Sins Repented during Invitation to Altar; The very thing that brought leprosy to Uzziah because he tried to own the atonement was what brought cleansing to Isaiah because he relinquished control of the atonement by himself.
B.      Received Instruction from the Lord;
C.      Life Commission

IV.                4 Shifts in a Vision of True Worship
A.      Adoration (move from earthly to heavenly)
B.      Confession (move from me/us to Lord)
1. Personal
2. Corporate
C.      Atonement (move from sin to forgiveness)
D.      Commission (move from here to there)

V.                  Your Vision of Worship
A.      True Worship demands a crisis of seeing our sinfulness and changing our attitude about what matters.
B.      True Worship requires atonement for sin and reassignment of our attention.
C.      True Worship is always accompanied by a Great Commission.
