Technological Profiling: Missionary Toolbox Part 5

Whenever you start to consider evangelistic access to an unreached people group, it helps to think in terms of current technological platforms. When IMB's Dr. Bob Brown (name changed for security purposes) taught us to study people groups, he used the analogy of the "visible invisible envelope." These questions are helpful in constructing an accurate picture of the current technological status of your people:

1. What technologies are accessible?
2. Who has which technologies: (rich or poor)
     a.  electricity
     b.  telecommunications
     c.  media
     d.  dvd, cd, etc.
     e.  cell phone coverage
     f.  computer/internet

After you have determined which categories the varied technologies apply to your people group, look at your own usage of technology.

1. How does your use of technology differ from theirs? Is yours reproducible for 2nd generation believers?
2. How would varied technologies be useful for: access to the gospel, gathering believers, planting churches, leadership development?
3. What bridges or barriers exist from what you've seen in varied technologies?
4. How would this affect the way a New Testament church looks among your people group?
