Sometimes its easy on a macro scale to say you know
everything about a country. You can look up its demographic data and paint
large sweeping brush-strokes about the content of its people. But that doesn’t
necessarily describe the reality on a micro-level. The broad facts are that
Peru has a general population of over 32 million people, most of whom are Roman
Catholic. There are over 26 million estimated lost people in that country and
only 1 Baptist Evangelical church for every 177,650 people, only a tiny fraction
of Baptists within a massive general population. We’ve been told that there are
9 unreached people groups in the country.
What we don’t know is the micro-level, who exactly the Lord
will lead us to on this trip. Gary and I are going to encourage leaders and
help train pastors through a network of indigenous pastoral training. Gary has
recently left his pastorate to become a full-time director of P2P Networks, a
primary partner with the Georgia Baptist Mission Board in helping connect key
Georgia pastors to week-long training opportunities in Central and South
America. See www.p2pnetworks.org for
more info about Gary’s work. We don’t yet personally know the pastors who will
be coming out of small villages and jungles to receive the biblical training.
We don’t which persons of peace the Lord will lead us to along the way. So
please pray for the following:
·
Pray that we will be content in whatever
circumstances we face on this trip (Phil 4:11-12).
·
Pray that we will be faithful in every
opportunity to share the Gospel (Eph 5:16).
·
Pray that we will be alert to new access points
for future work (2 Thes 3:1).
