Flowers of Obedience and Honor

Eph 6:1-4

I.                    Teaching God’s Righteousness (vs. 1)

·         Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right

·         Plurality of Parenthood

·         Right Obedience- “in the Lord” 

II.                  Bequeathing God’s Promise (vv. 2-3)

·         Honor your father and mother: place a high value on both roles. 

·         Prototype of Promise-filled Precept- first commandment with promise

·         That it may go well with you (Good Genetics):

·         That you may live long (Macro Chronos) in the land

III.                    Rearing God’s Family (vv. 4)

·         Plant without Provocation

·         Nourish/Cherish (see 5:29) same word

·         Discipline (educating to punishing)- in love (AGAPE)

·         Instruction (advising to warning)- in the word (LOGOS)
