SERMON NOTES (Feb 14, 2016): Recovering the Four Most Important Love Words John 15:9-13

Recovering the Four Most Important Love Words
John 15:9-13
Four Words that Must be Recaptured to Understand the Greatest Love:
·         Kathos-  (Adv) proportionate to, according to, just as
·         Agape – (Noun; Verb) unconditional love
·         Meno – (Verb) stay, abide, wait, remain, to be held continually
·         Tithemi – (Verb) lay down, commit, devote to, appoint, set in place

I.                    Origin of Greatest Love (Agape) – John 15:9a

Originates with the Father & Only found through Jesus Christ

Jesus’ love to us is based upon & proportionate to the Father’s love for His Son.

There is a direct correlation (kathos) between the eternal love within the Trinity and the eternal love Jesus has for us.

II.                  Location of Greatest Love (Meno)- John 15:9b-10

Staying in love with Jesus is secured by daily discipleship

Our abiding in Jesus’ commands is like Jesus’ abiding in the Father’s.

III.                Practice of Greatest Love (Tithemi) – John 15:12-13

Command to unconditionally love is conditional on His love.

Command to self-sacrifice for another is the greatest love.
